ESG agenda

Fully integrated corporate sustainable development strategy is under development, scheduled for implementation in 2023 and beyond. This strategy covers the company's goals in the field of sustainable development including all environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects of the company and relies on best practices and international standards.

The company is committed to the global framework of decarbonization and plans to introduce the Low-Carbon Development Program for 2023-2032 as part of the concept of achieving carbon neutrality until 2060. The program will become an integral part of corporate governance and systematize the company's activities in the field of reducing the carbon footprint. The introduction of a low-carbon agenda into the current and long-term operations will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and support sustainable developments of the company. In the short term, the company plans to obtain an ESG rating that measures company's resilience to ESG risks.

Initiatives to reduce carbon emissions

  • A modern, fuel-efficient aircraft fleet with less carbon emissions;
  • Ecological operating practices are being introduced;
  • Aircraft modifications to improve fuel efficiency (e.g. sharklets);
  • Fuel-efficient flying trainings for pilots.

Electrical and thermal energy are the two main types of energy resources used in all areas of aviation. Air Astana is constantly striving to optimize their consumption. In a situation of uncertainty caused by the pandemic, planned projects to reduce energy consumption have been postponed. However, the company plans to continue working to reduce energy consumption in the future.
