ESG agenda

The long-term Development Strategy of the Company, Environmental Policy, and Energy Transition Programs include the main directions and goals for reducing the carbon intensity of the Company’s processes and products.

The goal of the Program is to reduce the Company’s net carbon footprint by 2060.

Taking into account the importance of global trends in limiting climate change and the risks associated with activities based on traditional generation, Samruk-Energy JSC will strive to minimize its negative impact on the environment until 2060 by achieving carbon neutrality and the level of a high-tech operating company with high social and environmental responsibility.

The company plans to increase the share of electricity generation at RES and HPP from 7.7% in 2021 to 11.5% in 2026.

Investment attractiveness

The main activities of Samruk-Energy JSC are the management of energy assets in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as assistance in the modernization of existing and construction of new generating capacities, the introduction of new technologies in the energy sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The group of Samruk-Energy JSC companies consists of the largest generating companies, including stations of national importance:

1. Ekibastuz GRES-1 and GRES-2;

2. Hydroelectric power plants of the southern regions of the country - Shardara HPP and Moinak HPP;

3. The largest coal mining enterprise in Kazakhstan, Bogatyr Komir LLP;

4. RES facilities generating an alternative energy – Wind and Solar power plants;

5. regional distribution network and retail company.

Key markets for products sale (wholesale and retail electric energy markets, local thermal energy markets) and services of subsidiaries of Samruk-Energy JSC in the zones of the Unified Energy System of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

1. Northern zone – Akmola, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanai, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan regions and Astana;

2. Southern zone - Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, South Kazakhstan regions and Almaty

3. Western zone - Mangystau region In addition, the extracted thermal coal is sold in the domestic market of Kazakhstan and exported to the Russian Federation.

The total installed capacity of power plants of Samruk-Energy JSC as of January 01, 2022, amounted to 6 215.1 MW, which is 25.9% of the total installed capacity of power plants in Kazakhstan.
